A Focus on the Lung Meridian

Meridians are channels of energy flow within the body.

These channels each have specific points along their path that are the points used in Chinese acupuncture. There are approximately 500 points that have been mapped and used for centuries to bring specific improvements in energy flow and human performance.

Kinesiologists use Acupressure (no needles) and other non-invasive techniques to identify and balance energy within these meridians and their associated points.

There are 14 meridians – most of which link to a specific organ or gland in the body.

Therefore, in Western culture, we refer to them by their organ names, such as the lung meridian or the heart meridian.

The focus in this article will be on the Lung Meridian

The lungs are responsible for respiration, the pores of the skin, resistance to colds and flu, mucous, the strength of the immune system, vitality and how we adapt to our environment.

In addition to drawing in air (oxygen), the Lung Meridian Function is said to draw in or release Chi (energy) and regulate the status of the chi in the whole body and soul. The energy of the Lung Meridian is at its highest level between 3am and 5am.

Interesting Fact: the lungs are the only organ in the body that can be consciously controlled.

The Lung Meridian pathway and its specific acupressure points.

5 most potent points for balancing the Lung Meridian

Working on and balancing the Lung Meridian promotes the feeling of 'opening up'. Breathing focus is important whilst working with the acupressure points. If using these points, hold for 1-2 minutes. The Lung Meridian can also be strengthened by tracing over the meridian pathway with the opposite hand in the direction of energy flow, starting at the Lung 1 tracing down to Lung 11. Repeat 3-4 times.
